The Cartier Privé Tank Chinoise Skeleton represents one of the most architecturally expressive interpretations within the storied Tank lineage of Cartier. Released in 2022 as part of the exclusive Cartier Privé collection and unveiled at Watches and Wonders, this limited edition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the original Tank Chinoise introduced in 1922.
Inspired by East Asian architectural motifs, the Tank Chinoise distinguished itself through bold horizontal brancards positioned above and below the dial—an aesthetic nod to the lintels and porticos of traditional Chinese temple gateways. This platinum 950 edition reinterprets that historic design with a refined 39.5 mm x 29 mm rectangular case, combining polished horizontal brancards with brushed side elements to create striking visual contrast and structural depth.
The openworked dial reveals a meticulously skeletonized movement whose bridges form geometric patterns reminiscent of intricate Chinese window lattices. Accented with alternating blue and burgundy lacquer—precisely applied for crisp definition and rich tonal contrast—the dial architecture stands out vividly against the cool sheen of platinum. The result is both ornamental and highly technical, merging decorative artistry with horological precision.
Powering the watch is the manual-winding calibre 9627 MC, developed specifically for the Tank Chinoise Skeleton models. Based on Cartier’s 430 MC architecture, it delivers approximately 38 hours of power reserve while maintaining elegant proportions suited to the slim case profile.
Limited to just 100 pieces worldwide in this platinum configuration, the Tank Chinoise Skeleton remains one of the rarest and most collectible modern Tank interpretations. It is a timepiece that harmoniously blends heritage, architecture, and contemporary skeletonized watchmaking—an exceptional expression of Cartier’s design mastery and cultural dialogue.
